France 055 - Surreal beauty - Notre Dame
We were in Notre Dame and it was dark. dark, dark. You couldn't use a tripod so everything was shot handheld. I set my little 990 on program (yes, real photographers sometimes will use the program setting on their camera, they just won't tell you about it) and snapped the picture. When I was evaluating my images later that evening I almost deleted it. After all there is everything wrong with it that you could imagine. It's blurry, the highlights are burned out, it is the perfct canidate for the trash bin. But there is something compelling about it, a feeling of calmness and serenity that reaches out and touches you. I have sent this to several friends in their time of need, after a loss, and upon visiting them months later have seen it on display, tucked away on a dresser top or on desk but still in view.
